S. A. Bulat, L. P. Vasiljeva, V. Ya. Lipenkov, L. A. Alekhina. Molecular-biological investigations of the ice core from Vostok station
Results of molecular study of glacial and accretion ice of Vostok core are presented. Our data testify that both deep glacial and accreted ice are very clean and contain a tiny amount of DNA suitable for amplification in PCR, thus, the ice core decontamination is a crucial issue. Newly elaborated ice decontamination methods are described. To control contamination a special library of contaminants consisting of five different data bases (representing 156 DNA sequences) is established.
